Following on from my post discussing Navigating Social Media, I thought I’d share my new brainstorming technique for ‘target audiences’. I decided I would go through and note out the possible interests, hobbies, ages etc. for my audience based on the themes in my book. From there I will pick out the most likely target audience for my work and aim to tailor my social media posts, hashtags and engagement to focus more on those elements, rather than the book as a whole.

For Example: The Invisible Series - The Invisible Woman (Book I) If I were to pick out the most specific character traits and themes found in the book and list them, they would be as follows:

Likes: Cocktails

Hobbies: Dinner Parties and Travel

Generation: Gen Y (Millennials)

Gender: They, Female

Employment: Business

Personality Traits: Feminist, Deep Thinker

See the basic list I brainstormed below. I tried to capture the most obvious ties to the book in individual bubbles. Now, allow me to add a disclaimer - this list is certainly not exhaustive. I am not suggesting that people who do not work in Business, STEM or Law won’t be interested in reading the series, I am simply stating that these are the themes generally discussed in my book.

I must also disclose that I have not yet ‘tested’ this theory, so your guess is as good as mine if it works! But I thought I would share with you what my thought process has been. Feel free to comment below and share your experiences or techniques for identifying your target audiences! Stay tuned for more updates!
